Case Study: A Rooftop Farm Producing 20 kg/Week in Alexandria

In March 2024, a family from Smouha, Alexandria reached out with a simple question: could their neglected rooftop be turned into a real food source?

We started with a site assessment: 40 m² with 8+ hours of daily sun exposure, a solid structure, and proximity to water and power. The assessment was promising.

We chose an NFT system with 12 horizontal channels, 3 meters each, allowing 240 plants at a time. Crops: romaine lettuce, basil, spinach, and mint.

Output: after four weeks of operation, weekly yield reached 18 kg, then stabilized at 20 kg after minor nutrient solution adjustments.

Financial result: the family's monthly vegetable bill dropped from EGP 2,400 to EGP 1,400 — a 40% saving — with noticeably higher quality than market produce.

The key lesson: a rooftop is not wasted space — it is a genuine agricultural asset when designed properly. We offer free rooftop assessments — get in touch.
