NFT vs. DWC: Choosing the Right System for Your Project

NFT (Nutrient Film Technique): a thin stream of nutrient solution flows continuously through sloped channels, with roots partially exposed to air for enhanced oxygenation.
DWC (Deep Water Culture): roots are permanently submerged in an aerated solution. Simpler to build but heavier and more water-intensive than NFT.
Choose NFT if you are growing lightweight leafy greens (lettuce, basil, spinach) in a long horizontal space. It is the go-to for small to mid-scale commercial farms.
Choose DWC if you are a beginner looking for a simple, low-cost setup, or if you are growing in individual containers. It is ideal for home use and first experiments.
For heavy-fruiting crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers), Dutch Bucket is preferred — it supports plant weight and delivers intermittent nutrient flow with excellent root aeration.
